Completed in 1969, the John Hancock Center is a 100 story, 1,127 foot (344 m) (1,500 ft, 457.2 m including antennas) tall skyscraper designed by Skidmore, Owings, & Merrill with chief designer Bruce Graham and structural engineer Falzur Khan. It is the 4th tallest building in Chicago and the 7th tallest in the USA. It features expressionist style with an X-bracing exterior that is part of its tubular system that allows it to remain standing during wind and earthquake loads. It is named after the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Co. The top floors feature an observation deck and bar lounge.
