This Cairn was raised by the Whangarei borough Council as a memorial to one of the earliest pioneers of the district -Robert Mair. Who lived on this property 78 years from 1842 to 1920. Preserving it in all is beauty and presenting it as a public domain to the citizens of Whangarei on 23 December 1914
