Home to the University of Canterbury's Central Library, this iconic building is named after Puaka, the Maori name for the brightest star in Orion, and Sir James Hight, a prominent Victorian scholar, teacher, historian and economist with close ties to Canterbury College and the University of New Zealand - having been Pro- Chancellor of the latter for 13 years.
