<center>Tom Goodman Thrasher <br> August 4, 1916<br> December 19,1999</center> -Grew up in Birmingham, Alabama<br> -Studied Engineering at the University of Alabama in Tuscalossa<br> -Married the former Dorothy Wright of Belmont, Mississippi<br> -Served in the Army in North Africa and European Theater during WWII and was discharge as a Lieutenant Colonel in March 1946<br> -Opened Thrasher Oil Company in Huntsville under a Shell Oil company Franchise in 1946<br> -Served as Executive Officer at Redstone Arsenal from May 1951 until October 1952<br> -Appointed by President Kennedy to the National USO Board from 1961-1964<br> -Awarded the distinguished Citizen Service Medal, the highest honor that the U.S. Army can give to a Civilian, in 1995<br> -Appointed to the U.S. Army Civilian Advisory Committee, Third Army Area Headquarters, in 1958<br> -Served on the Board of Directors and as Vice President of the Alabama Chamber of Commerce<br> -Appointed to the City of Huntsville School Board from 1952-1961 and was President for two years<br> -Served on the Board of Directors and as President of the Huntsville Industrial Expansion Committee<br> -Served on the Board of Directors and as Chairman of the Industrial Development Board<br> -Served as Co-Chariman of the Huntsville <br> -U.S. Army Community Relations Committee from 1960-1996 -Served on the NASA Local Advisory Committee<br> -Served as Director of the Huntsville-Madison County Chamber of Commerce<br> -Served as Chairman of the Madison County Oil Distributors Association<br> -Served on the Board and as President of the Tennessee Valley Association of the U.S. Army<br> -Served as Chairman of the Von Braun Civic Center and Visitors Bureau Board of Control from 1974-1990<br> -Served as Chairman of the Huntsville Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Control from 1976-1990<br> -Was a Founding member and Vice Chairman of the University of Alabama in Huntsville Foundation<br> -Awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Humanities from the University of Alabama in Huntsville 1976<br> -Awarded Huntsville Outstanding Citizen of the year in 1985
