Landscape Reflection

North Charleston, United States

Plywood and metal sculpture by New Jersey artist John Acorn. Landscape Reflection derives from a series of small relief sculptures the artist created in the 1980s. John Acorn investigates the three-dimensional properties of plywood in a manner similar to contour models or maps. The material suggests landscape and other natural forms as a result of the layering process. In this work, the wood suggests the earth and the contours of its masses while the metal areas convey the appearance of the sea or the sky. The metal division suggests a reflection and creates a more non-representational character to the wall relief sculpture with its aerial perspective.
