Designed and built by George Gilbert Scott, a renowned English gothic revival architect, the Midland Grand Hotel first opened on 5th May 1873. It closed in 1935, bombed 3 times during WWII and housed railway staff on the intervening years. Following extensive restoration and modernising, the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel was opened in 2011 - on the same date as the original hotel.
