Russian Tank

London, United Kingdom

This is soviet medium tank T-34-85, designed in 1943. Was manufactured till 1958, the second most-produced tank of all time. Russell Grey bought the tank in 1995 as a present for his 7 year old son and as a protest against Southwark Council who refused him planning permission for a house there. He applied instead for permission to install a 'tank' which was granted presumably after being skim-read. Supposedly the gun is aimed at the council offices. Since 2002, it has become a canvas for artists after Aleksandra Mir painted it pink as an echo of a similar protest in Prague in 1991.
