Narcisse Toudoir - Vitrage Barcelonaplein
Amsterdam, Nederland
Cast-iron grille, designed by Belgian artist Narcisse Toudoir (1953). As the repurposing of the chiefly industrial area to a residential one was still in full swing in 1993, life in the newly built apartments still took place mostly "behind the curtains". To symbolize this, Toudoir designed this curved grille as a sort of curtain enclosing the circular square, enticing residents to extend their private lives to the streets, encouraging the transformation.
