Okemos Solar Walk: Saturn

Okemos Middle School 8th Grade Class of 2014 worked with their science teachers and designed a scale model of the solar system. The Sun is placed on the corner of Okemos and Kinawa. With a scale of one inch equal to 51,000 miles, planets Mercury through Neptune are placed at their scale distances along Kinawa Drive. Pluto is at the corner of Kinawa and Dobie at a scale distance of 3.6 billion miles.This model is a permanent artifact that is used in the school curriculum, as well as a good visitor attraction for the kids and their teachers, and parents in the community.
