Pinus Sabiniana

This is the common pine of the foothills. Its needles are lighter in color than the mountain pine. Also its trunk are often forked and tilted. Needles are long and in clusters of 3. Cones are large and heavy. Squirrels cut the cones. Gray Pine is native to California. It is found in the foothills encircling the Central Valley, often with the blue oak.
