Ad Pontes Prospectimus

The Shield on the Spelthorne Borough Council Building in Staines. The Latin literally means 'At the bridges we look forward' however in Roman times Staines-Upon-Thames had one of the main Roman bridges over the river Thames and was known as Ad Pontes. Thus the modern translation is 'At Staines we look forward'.
