Grassland Residents

Woodbridge, United States

Grasslands are important homes for wildlife. Several birds, including grasshopper sparrows and Meadowlark, nest only in grassland habitat. Look for these birds singing from the tops of the taller grasses. More secretive grassland residents include small mammals such as meadow voles, white footed mice, and marsh rice rats. These small, often overlooked animals, provide a steady food source for Hawk, owls, and other year-round residents.
