Pentecost: The Coming of the Holy Spirit
San Antonio, United States
When the day of Pentecost came, it found them in one place. Suddenly, from up in the sky, there came a noise like a strong wind which was heard all through the house. Tongues as of fire appeared, which parted and came to rest on each of them. All were filled the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:1-4 Against the great swirl at wind, the figures of the apostles and Mary appear to be caught up in the movement, as if in ecstasy. They are being overcome, overpowered by the breath of the Holy Spirit. Powerful gifts of healing, preaching, teaching and soaking in tongues are being bestowed at this moment. We call upon our patron, the Holy Spitit, to breathe on each of us, giving us the gifts we need to fulfill our vocations in life. We share in the life of God and of the church by the power ot the Holy Spirit through our reception of the sacraments. We join with Mary and the apostles in accepting the Holy Spirit who strengthens us to do God's will in our lives. January 29, 1995
