St. Bernard's Church

Pittsburgh, United States

This church was awarded a plaque from Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation in 1988. Although its basement was completed up to the floor level in 1934 and a chapel was dedicated at that time, construction of the remainder of the church did not start until 1942 due to the Great Depression, and took the next two decades to complete. The parish itself was founded in 1919 after the opening of a tunnel to Pittsburgh spurred population growth in the Mount Lebanon and Dormont area.
