Champneys' Pink Cluster
Ravenel, United States
In 1802, on his rice plantation in nearby Rantowles, John Champneys hybridized the first rose in America. "Champneys' Pink Cluster" was a cross between the European "Millers' White Musk" rose (Rosa Moschata) and "Parsons' Pink China" rose (Old Blush). This new fragrant rose, with large clusters of small pink flowers, bloomed repeatedly. It became a sensation here and abroad.
