The Original 83 Acres

The area that is today the south end of Berry College campus was the original campus of Martha Berry's first boarding school. Before she established the boarding school, Miss Berry ran a day school in a whitewashed school house on the southeast corner of 83 acre tract of land she had been given by her father. The day school was "failing", according to Miss Berry, because there was "no way of enforcing discipline, and the attendance was scanned and irregular."
