Landscape Axle Bench

This bench was designed by Tim Norris as part of the Sustrans nation cycle way project which Tim acted as the lead sculpture for. In 2004 they commisioned Tim to work with art students of Rycotewood College to design a series of resting places which reflect and comliment aspects of the passing landscape and local history. This consists of a bench in two parts that crosses the path and creates a pathway space along the lines of its structure. The materials are local to the area, native English Oak with chalk and stone secured by gabion like cages, the stuff the embankment has been constructed from on National Route 544, Didcot to Upton.
