Osmotherley Market Cross

900 years ago the village was called Asmundrela, meaning Asmund's clearing. Look carefully and you'll find a cottage with this name near the market place. For centuries farming was the way of life here. Markets and fairs were held in the square. Look for the remains of the old market cross outside the newsagents shop, it was replaced in 1874.
