This bench/resting place was designed by Andrew Osbourne as part of the Sustrans nation cycle way project with Tim Norris. In 2004 they commisioned Tim to work with art students of Rycotewood College to design a series of resting places which reflect and comliment aspects of the passing landscape and local history along National Route 544. The design represents the Common Quaking Grass which grows on chalky soil. Using nature’s arrangement of overlapping parts, a the geometric design (also found in Forminifera, the microscopic animal–like fossils found in chalk) provides an oval all round seating with gaps between the sections providing bike prop slots.
