During the period of 15 September 1965 through 1 February 1971, the US Army Engineer Officer Candidate Regiment fulfilled to train, educate and commission Second Lieutenants to lead American Soldiers during the Vietnam War era. The Engineer Officer Candidate school program, conducted on this site, involved 23 weeks of rigorous training and evaluation. A total of 10,380 Officer candidates graduated and were commissioned in various branches of the US Army. At the height of the program, the Regiment consisted of four battalions. The Regimental Headquarters, barracks and chapel were located in this area (areas 1800 and 2400 of Ft. Belvoir's North post. This plaque was emplaced by USAEOCR Class 18B-69
