Kid Takes it All

Amarillo, United States

By Derek Wernher This sculpture is intended to represent some of the basic heritage of Amarillo. Before the turn of the century, Amarillo was a staging area for cattle being sent by rail to the east. The scene depicted in this sculpture is of a railroader or sodbuster type character playing cards with a cowboy. The interplay of personalities and ethnic structure of the individuals was of great importance to the sculptor and he wanted to portray a beer drinking Scotch-Irishman pitted against a clever, scrawny cowboy.
