Scutchamer Knob Signpost

Signpost indicating the early iron age barrow known as Scutchamer Knob or Cwichelmslaewe. Originally a round barrow, excavations in 1842 left the barrow a distinctive croissant shape. Legend has it that it is the burial site of the Saxon king Cwichelm although the nineteenth century archaeologists failed to find any evidence of this and probably destroyed any evidence that did exist
