Charles Island is a 14 acre island located off the coast of Milford, CT in Long Island Sound. There are tales that Captain William Kidd buried treasure on the island in 1699 however no evidence has ever been found. The island is accessible by a tombolo (sandbar) at low tide. Extreme caution should be used when hiking to the island. The island is a part of Silver Sands State Park which closes daily at sunset.
