The Warsaw

Glen Dale, United States

Upon returning from Europe, Mr. Andritch noted that the Polish and German workers at the nearby Fokker Aircraft Company had nowhere in town to relax together. He pooled money with friends and workers and established in 1928 a place to eat lunch, dinner, and have a drink or two. Named after one of his favorite cities, the Warsaw was a raving success for the nearby workers. Even after the failure of the Fokker Company, the Warsaw thrived. When Marx Toys purchased the former aircraft company, the workers continued to hang out here. During the great depression, the Warsaw ensured that everyone had a small meal and none of his patrons went hungry. Today, it is still operating with a different clientele but popular nonetheless.
