Japanese Temple Guardians

This pair of wooden temple guardians are reproductions of the ones carved by the sculptor Ubkei for the south gate of the great temple of Todai-ji in Nara. The originals were produced during the Kamakura period, and were almost 30 feet tall. Kamakura Period 1185-1333 A.D.
