Old Breeches Buoy Tower
Dunmore East, Ireland
The breeches buoy tower was used as a means of rescuing people from ships at sea, a line would be fired over the ship from shore using a rocket. Then it would be secured to both the tower and the ship and people would be hauled to shore in a cradle which traveled along the line. There is a historic breeches rocket cart at the hook lighthouse museum.
