Makara Thorana

Matale Aluwiharaya is famous among Buddhist people being the sacred temple in which the "Thripitakaya" or the main teachings of Lord Buddha has been converted in to the written form. For centuries these teachings were passed on to next generations via word of mouth and this has become difficult due to invaders from foreign lands attacking Buddhist monks and temples.
