Wollundry
Wagga Wagga, Australia
In 2000, Riverina based artist, Dawn Elrington, was commissioned by the Wagga Wagga City Council to create a large-scale glass sculpture as part of the Wollundry Federation Riverina Amphitheatre Project (1999 – 2001). Stylised images of Silver Banksia (Banksia marginata), which is the floral emblem of the City of Wagga Wagga, have been laser etched into the surface of the sculpture. According to Landscape Architect Alexandra Dalglish, this particular species of plant was thought to have been prolific on the low sand hills which now form part of the central business district of Wagga Wagga. Dawn Elrington also produced the images that appear on the Illuminated Story Panel entitled Fairy and Frog and Turtle. http://www.wagga.nsw.gov.au/city-of-wagga-wagga/recreation/parks/civic-precinct
