This cannonball which ways 1080 pounds in this one T 2 inches in diameter was retrieved from the hill side opposite a civil war proving ground in the area between Trafford and Pitcairn. It was shot during the Civil War during a test. It was recovered by Richard Custer and the son-in-law John O George and placed at the family homestead which was a log cabin in Cavittsville in the early 1890s. In 1902 Mr George and his wife, Mary Custer George, daughter of Richard Custer, built their new home on the hill top of Cavittsville on Cavittsville Road. The cannonball was moved by team of horses and placed on the cement pedestal in front of the house.
