Old English Inn ca. 1765

In a 1958 National Geographic article the first part of this structure was built in 1765. The Overmountain Men rested here on their trek to Kings Mountain to fight Ferguson and his men. The town of Spruce Pine got it's name from the large Spruce Pine tree that stood outside the English Inn when residents were asked what to name the town.
