MYSTIC
Volatus Aquilae
Mishawaka, United States
Volatus Aquilae, which is Latin for "Eagis in Flight," is the creation of South Bend artist Robert Kuntz. It is constructed of stainless steel on a Cor-Ten steel base. The eagle has a seven-foot wingspan and the sculpture, weighing nearly one ton, has an overall height of sixteen feet. The Eagle can be aporeciated on many levels: as a beautiful and magestic bird, as a sign of hope for other endangered animals, and as a symbol of patriotism. The artist's intent was to reflect America and her vigilance following the terrorist attacks of 9/11, as well as our community's commitment to embracing this country's higher ideals.
