Doane Mayflower Memorial Plaque

In 1620 Nauset Beach was the first land spotted by the Pilgrim passengers but they choose Plymouth for their central of government. Although the court remained in Plymouth, seven families left in 1644 and relocated to the Nauset region. Deacon John Doane was among this group and received the land adjoining Nauset Marsh. This Memorial was erected in 1864.
