St. Diogo's Church

Church of Saint Diogo This Church dedicated to Saint Diogo Patron of Guirim and Sangolda villages was erected in the year 1604 A.D. by Frei Miguel de S. Boaventura, a Franciscan monk. This is the 13th of 24 Parish Churches built in Bardez between 1550 A. D. and 1688 A, D. The distinctive Features of this structure of the Renaissance Genre are many. Most Striking are: The magnificent facade built in the year 1857 A.D. and five ornate altars at strategic points inside the nave. The main alter is dedicated to the Patron Saint Diogo with statues of two other Franciscan Saints, Saint Anthony of Padua and Saint Francis of Assisi standing on either side. The left hand side altar is dedicated to infant Jesus and right hand side altar to our lady of the Rosary. The altar opposite the exquisite pulpit is dedicated to our lady This Commemorative Plaque was installed on the occasion of the Quadrieentennial Jubilee of the Church in the year 2004 AD
