Sulphur Spring

Greenville, United States
Water with heavy mineral content has long been valued as a health tonic. Sulfur water, despite its rotten-egg smell, was among the most popular "remedies."

A sulphurous spring - now plugged with concrete - once flowed here and, in 1900, local entrepreneurs began the "Paris Mountain Sulphur Spring Company." What little we know of this operation comes from an elderly man interviewed around 1970 by Park Ranger Mike Davis.

Its worth noting that the man's family chose to get their water from clear springs!

One this land became a state park, facilities were constructed here that have been used for a wide array of gatherings. In addition to special events, Sulphur Springs was the long-time home to Camp Spearhead, a summer day camp for children with special needs.
