Shell Grotto

The shells used in the grotto are exotic and many are now protected specimens. It is believed they would have been brought to Cornwall from the West Indies, often as ballast for ships. The cave would have been lit with a lantern hung from the ceiling and the shards of glass used in the decoration would reflect light throughout the cave.
