This stone manor was commissioned in 1915 by Lt. Col Leonard Messel, designed by Sir Walter Tapper and Norman Evill in a late Gothic/Tudor style. The house survived WWII, but suffered a disastrous fire in 1947 and was only partially rebuilt. It was bequeathed to the National Trust in 1953.
