MYSTIC
Mitchell Trailhead
Los Alamos, United States
In the fall of 1973, David Brian Mitchell decided to earn his Eagle Scout rank by blazing a new trail from Los Alamos to Guaje Canyon, Using only a compass and a contour map for direction, this fourteen-year-old Scout led friends and family into the forest each weekend to mark the route. He chose this path because it was the shortest distance between the town site and Guaje Reservoir. Five years later, a sudden illness ended David's life, but the trail had already been adopted by other hikers. Finally, in 1989, many who know him only through this trail worked together to mark this spot where Mitchell Trail crosses the older Guaje Ridge Trail.
