Egmont Key Lighthouse

This lighthouse, the second one built on this site, was first lit in 1858. Since it replaced a lighthouse built a decade earlier that was battered by a hurricane, lightning, and flooding, this tower has brick walls three feet thick. It was originally powered by a lamp and fixed Fresnel lens, but was retrofitted with an electric beacon and remains in operation today.
