Snow’s Battery

On August 30, 1861 Battery B of the Union Army under the command of Capt. Alonzo Snow was organized at Port Deposit, composed mainly of men from this town and vicinity. The Battery rendered important service to the Federal forces in the Civil War. Notably artillery support in two bloody battles of 1862, Malvern Hill on the James River in Virginia and Antietam near Sharpsburg in Maryland.
