Weyburn's First Post Office

Weyburn, Canada

In 1893, Weyburn's First Post Office was located in the west bank of the Souris River south of this marker. The first settlers in the area included William Hunt, Henry and Wellington Powley, Pete Wilkins and John Tate. The post office consisted of an apple box placed in the corner of Mr. Hunt's dugout home. It served the homesteaders until a new post office was built after the village of Weyburn was founded in April 1899.
