Narveer Tanaji Malusare Memorial

Tanaji Malusare was a general in Shivaji Bhosale's army. He fell during the battle for Kondhana in which he was fighting against the Mogul general Udaybhan Rathod. History tells us that Tanaji and Udaybhan were fighting against each other when both of them landed a fatal blow on one another which killed them both. When he heard the news, Chhatrapati (King) Shivaji Bhosale exclaimed, "I have gained a fort, but lost a Lion." It is said that Shivaji renamed this fort to "Sinhagad" which literally means "Lion Fort" in remembrance of this Lion General.
