First United Methodist Church

City of Ogallala, United States

Developing churches was a sure fire sign that Ogallala was slowly turning from its wild cowboy days. Citizens that practiced Methodist faith met in homes in the area with the first Methodist meeting being in 1886. Eventually, a lot on the corner of 5th and Spruce streets was purchased and a church was built for the community of Ogallala. The church was dedicated onJuly 22, 1888 with Reverend McAdams as the first minister for the official church. (Source "A Century on the Trail" Elaine Nielsen)
