On this site from August 25, 1862, to November 7, 1862, the 143rd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment commanded by Colonel Edmund L. Dana was organized, trained and mustered in for service in the Union Army during the Civil War. This was the only camp of rendezvous established in Luzerne County during the Civil War.
