The town of Pretoria was named after Charles Preetorius. Charles immigrated to Georgia in 1847 at the age of 19. Originally from Main, Germany, he settled in Bulloch County. He married Christiana Little on November the 19th 1856 and they had 9 children. Charles fought in the Civil War with the Confederacy army and following an honorable discharge continue to form, possibly right where you are standing. Record shows that in 1863 Charles was growing corn, sweet potatoes, wool and feed for horses. At that time 1/10 of his income was paid to the Confederacy. Charles on quite a bit of land with your children inherited. He died on July the 16th 1914 at the age of 86.
