Cadavre Exquis

Atherton, United States

"Cadavre Exquis" was the project of a beginning art class at Menlo College. Each student was instructed to express their own interpretation of a specific body part on a section of clay. After firing, the pieces were assembled to form a complete human form. The name of the piece comes from Cadavre Exquis (Exquisite Corpse), a parlor game played by Surrealist artists involving collaborative completion of a drawing of a person, with each contributor only seeing the connecting edge of the previous work.
