Vapaudenpatsas, "statue of liberty" is a monument in the Hämeenpuisto esplanade. Monument stands for the Battle of Tampere (1918), which ended in the White Guard capturing the city from the Red Guard. The capture was a pivotal point in the Finnish Civil War. The monument is designed by Viktor Jansson and Wäinö Palmqvist. The statue was unveiled in 1921.
