Banga / The Wave Author: Gediminas Piekuras, Lithuania At the request of "Vilniaus verslo uostas" (currently business center "3 Burės"), 2008-2009 Materials: stainless steel Height: 4.5m The result of the project code-named "Business - for art and people" - a 3-ton stainless steel wave - is a great artistic accent bringing much needed freshness in the background of the rigorous skyscrapers. The construction of the sculpture lasted for almost a year and was one of the largest private business investments in art objects in the public spaces of Vilnius. This sculpture embodies the Baltic Sea wave, which is typical of the sea during the spring and autumn storms. In search for sculptural forms, the sculptor spent a lot of time near the sea, photographing and analyzing waves, seeking to replicate their natural shape.
