Early in 1908 FP Hosp and partners planted 40000 eucalyptus seedlings creating this Grove. They hoped to satisfied Santa fe railroad needs for wood for railroad ties. Following a citizen vote in 1987 53 acres of the Grove were acquired by the city of Carlsbad and turned into a public park.
