Stari Olimpijski muzej
Sarajevo, Bosna i Hercegovina
The Original Olympic Museum of BiH was founded with the aim of preserving, for posterity’s sake, the memory of the organization and realization of the XIV Winter Olympic Games which were held in Sarajevo in 1984. It's located in the building called “Villa Mandić” in center of Sarajevo, which had been designed by the famous Czech Architect, Karl Paržik. The area, together with the Villa Heinrich Raither, Villa Hermina Radisch and Villa Forstrath Miklau is one of the best preserved examples of Austro-Hungarian influence in the architecture of Sarajevo. On April 27, 1992, at the very beginning of the war in Bosnia, the building was severely damaged when hit by grenades and many valuable items have been destroyed. The building is a protected national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Reconstruction of “Villa Mandić” is under way and remains one of the most important projects for Olympic committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It should be noted however that the exhibitions of the Olympic museum are actually held in the Olympic Hall Zetra. Nevertheless, The Original Olympic Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina remains one of the best known historical and cultural landmarks of Sarajevo.
