FRED C. HILL 1926 - 1995 Founder - Owner Fred Hill was born in Johnstown, PA and shortly afterwards moved to Pittsburgh's northside. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the Marine Corps and spent his tour of duty aboard the USS Butner in the Pacific. Returning home, he tried numerous occupations from sales clerk to dance instructor and studio owner to dairy bar owner. Eventually, a friend coaxed him into trying a job selling cemetery property, and a lifelong career was begun. He owned cemeteries in Columbia (Laurel Hill cemetery). Hanover (Rest Haven Cemetery) and Reading (Berks County Memorial Garden along with restaurants in York and Lancaster Being a past Pennsylvania Cemetery Association President, he was well known in the cemetery industry and was often the "Idea Man". In 1949 he married Helen D. Rozak of Pittsburgh. PA and had 2 sons, Dennis F. & Greg, who along with their father enjoyed the cemetery industry.
